Sheriff Joseph Roybal announced the addition of K9 Amp, the first explosives detection dog for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado.
K9 Amp is specially trained to detect explosive materials and provide passive alerts by sitting or lying near a scent, helping deputies investigate safely without disturbing potential devices. He is partnered with Deputy David Glenn, a nearly 13-year veteran and member of the Regional Explosives Unit since 2023.
Originally funded through the State Homeland Security Grant Program for Colorado’s South-Central Region, K9 Amp previously served with the Colorado Springs Regional Explosives Unit. Officials say the new K9 program marks a significant step forward in the agency’s public safety capabilities.
