The Pflugerville Police Department in Texas has introduced K9 Pflash, a 3-year-old black Labrador retriever trained to detect hidden electronic devices that may contain evidence in criminal investigations.
Pflash can locate items such as cell phones, computers, memory cards and USB drives, even when concealed or submerged in water. Officials said the specialized K-9 will support investigations involving child exploitation, human trafficking and other digital crimes.
Pflash and his handler, Detective Janie Campana, completed training through the U.S. Secret Service’s National Computer Forensics Institute. In addition to detecting electronic evidence, Pflash is trained as a de-escalation dog, providing comfort to crime victims and support to officers in the field.
