The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a unique new member to its K-9 unit: Waldo, a Goldendoodle specially trained to detect illegal drugs inside the county detention center in North Carolina.
Since joining the jail in February, Waldo has been helping officers search for contraband, including fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, hidden in mail and other areas of the facility.
Officials say Waldo not only improves safety at the jail but also boosts morale among staff, earning a tennis ball whenever he successfully locates drugs.
