Dozens of pets took part in Litchfield, Connecticut’s annual Fourth of July pet parade on Saturday, as the community celebrated America’s 250th anniversary with costumes, laughter, and a wide range of animal participants.
Now in its 28th year, the event is organized by the Litchfield Historical Society and featured dogs, ducks, and even a lizard, each receiving lighthearted awards such as “most patriotic” and “floppiest ears.” Organizers say the parade has become a beloved tradition for both locals and visitors.
This year’s festivities were held at the historic Tapping Reeve House, the site of the first law school in the United States. With high summer temperatures, pets also had access to shaded areas and a cooling pool to stay comfortable throughout the celebration.
