Authorities rescued 76 dogs from a home on McCarthy Road in Lemont, Illinois, during a search involving a firearms restraining order. The animals were found in overcrowded and reportedly poor living conditions.
The homeowner, Andrew Malak, faces animal cruelty and weapons charges. Police recovered three weapons from the property, while officials reported that the dogs appeared generally healthy, though some were fearful and skittish.
Local shelters and rescue organizations are caring for the dogs and arranging veterinary assessments. The animals are not yet available for adoption as they begin their recovery.
