A U.S. Army veteran, Peter Tong, graduated from Polk State College with his service dog, Ren, by his side.
Tong, a former 112th Signal Battalion IT specialist, left the military in 2012 after a hip injury and later returned to school while managing mobility challenges, anxiety, and depression. After being advised by a therapist, he was paired with Ren, who became a constant source of emotional and physical support throughout his studies.
Tong credited Ren with helping him through difficult moments and keeping him grounded during his academic journey. He ultimately chose to attend his graduation ceremony with her, calling her presence a key part of his success.
