A dog from the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County fatally attacked a family pet during the Tacoma City Marathon in Washington state on May 3.
The incident happened during finish-line festivities when the shelter dog, present for an adoption outreach event, attacked another dog, killing it. The Humane Society apologized, calling it a tragic incident and saying it is reviewing its policies for taking animals to public events.
Marathon organizers say they are also reviewing their partnership with the shelter, while an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
