A Texas judge has ruled that Hachi, a German shepherd accused of biting a neighbor on Christmas Eve, will not be euthanized after a lengthy legal battle.
Hachi had been held at the Fort Bend County Animal Shelter for months as his owner, LaDonna Aboubsi, fought to save him. The case included multiple court appearances and a seven-hour trial.
The judge ultimately spared the dog’s life, though Hachi will not return home and will instead be rehomed with someone his owner knows. Attorneys argued the injuries in the incident did not meet the legal standard for “serious bodily injury.” The case also drew widespread attention on social media.
