A trained K-9 unit successfully located a missing 7-year-old girl who ran away from her mother at a park on April 2, according to newly released body camera footage from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado.
Body camera footage shows K-9 Rex actively working the scene, sniffing the child’s shoes to pick up her scent before leading deputies on a focused track through the area. Within just 12 minutes, the police dog followed the trail to a nearby backyard, where the girl was found after being missing for nearly two hours.
Officials said the child, who ran off because she didn’t want to leave the park, was briefly frightened and tried to run from deputies but was safely reunited with her family. The sheriff’s office noted the rescue marked Rex’s first successful missing child recovery after completing tracking training.
