A rescue Yorkshire terrier from Indiana is receiving statewide recognition after being named Miss Indiana in the 2026 Pet Lover's Choice Awards, earning a place among the nation's most popular pets.

Bella, owned by Carolyn Pope of Redkey, Indiana, was selected as Indiana's winner in the nationwide competition, which benefits Best Friends Animal Society. She went on to finish 24th nationally out of more than 54,000 contestants.

Pope adopted Bella from Grateful Rescue and Sanctuary two years ago after volunteering with the rescue for several years. She credits Bella's playful personality and expressive eyes for winning over supporters throughout the competition.

Bella's success has brought attention to rescue pets and highlighted the impact they can have on their families and communities, while helping raise awareness for animal welfare efforts.
