A Chicago family has been reunited with their missing dog nearly two years after he disappeared from their backyard, thanks to a microchip that helped animal control identify his owners.
Pezkoi, an American bulldog belonging to Joel Saucedo and his family, was found about 59 miles away by animal control in Kankakee, Illinois. After receiving the call, the family described the reunion as emotional and unexpected following years of searching and posting missing dog notices throughout the city.
Animal advocates with Lost Dogs Illinois said the case highlights the importance of keeping pet microchip information updated, especially during seasons when pets are more likely to go missing.
