The town of Penobscot is home to Maine’s only Toss and Fetch team, part of an international canine Frisbee competition league where dogs earn points by catching flying discs within a 60 second round.
While teams compete for scores based on distance and aerial catches, participants say the sport is more about bonding with their dogs than winning. New participant George Schieferdecker said he joined after seeing how much his dog enjoyed playing Frisbee at home, and the pair set a club record during their first competition.
Organizers, including dog trainer Margaret Brooks, say Toss and Fetch is one of the most inclusive dog sports and welcomes dogs and handlers of all experience levels.
