A North Dakota family says their golden retriever, Skye, has taken on a caregiving role after Donna Aho was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Donna and Michael Aho say Skye, adopted 10 years ago through the nonprofit Retrieve a Golden of the Midwest, has become highly attuned to Donna’s condition, responding to nighttime tremors and staying close when she is unsettled.
The family says Skye also accompanies Donna on walks and helps ensure her safety in their rural neighborhood, offering comfort and reassurance as her condition progresses.
