While football stars prepare for the World Cup in Toronto, two border collies are carrying out an important mission behind the scenes: keeping Canada geese off the training pitches.
Ben and Sally patrol the fields twice a day, five days a week, ensuring the playing surfaces remain clean and safe for visiting teams. According to their owner, goose droppings can spread disease and damage the turf, making regular patrols essential.
The dogs, who work for Border Control Bird Dogs, have years of experience managing geese across Ontario. Their World Cup assignment has also brought greater public attention to the specialized role of bird-management dogs.
