A house fire in Pueblo, Colorado, led firefighters to rescue seven puppies and a pet rat from a north-side home, according to the Pueblo Fire Department. Crews responded after receiving reports that multiple animals were trapped inside.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and conducted a search of the home. Some of the rescued animals received CPR and supplemental oxygen for smoke inhalation. Two adult dogs and one puppy died in the fire, while no people or firefighters were injured during the response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The rescued puppies are now in the care of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, while officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
