A rescue dog in France may become the oldest dog ever recorded, pending verification by Guinness World Records. Lazare, a continental toy spaniel believed to have been born in 1995, is reportedly over 30 years old.
The claim was submitted by the Société Protectrice des Animaux, which says the dog’s age has been confirmed through a microchip and official pedigree records. If validated, Lazare would surpass previous record holder Bluey, who lived to 29.
Despite age-related health issues, Lazare was recently adopted after a short stay in a shelter in the French Alps. His new owner says she adopted him out of compassion, regardless of any record, as Guinness reviews the claim cautiously following past controversies.
