Polk County, Florida, has welcomed Vader, a new police K-9, to join Deputy Natalie Oestreich following the retirement of her former partner, Ace.
Ace was seriously injured in a line-of-duty shooting in August when an armed suspect shot him. He survived but lost his left front leg and was forced to retire. During the confrontation, Ace’s actions helped save the lives of three deputies.
Vader, a 15-month-old German Shepherd, was donated by Herb Bennett of HBK-9 after he learned about Ace’s story. The young dog will now partner with Oestreich as she returns to duty, while Ace enjoys retirement at home.
