Hawaiʻi Island police K-9 Trina helped locate a missing 70-year-old Oʻahu man at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on October 19, 2026. He had been missing for more than 24 hours.
Trina, a three-year-old Labrador Retriever, worked alongside her handler, Officer Christopher Ross, and other search personnel. With additional aerial support from a Hawaiʻi Fire Department helicopter, the search ended successfully at approximately 7:30 p.m., when Trina located the man on a trail about two miles from his vehicle.
The man was safely rescued and taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for dehydration and exposure. This was Trina’s second successful missing-person search in two months.
