The Phoenix Fire Department has welcomed three new search-and-rescue dogs, Bunker, Ryder and Sawyer, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The new canine team members are expected to strengthen emergency response efforts across Arizona.
During a recent demonstration, the dogs showed off their skills by navigating obstacles, completing agility exercises and practicing scent detection. These specialized abilities are essential for locating people during disasters and search-and-rescue missions.
Before joining active operations, each dog will undergo extensive training with its handler. Once ready, the teams may assist with local emergencies and FEMA deployments, helping rescuers respond when people need them most.
