A North Carolina dog that was swept away by floodwaters during a trip to a local creek has been reunited with its owners after an extensive community search aided by drone technology.
The dog, named Monchu, disappeared after heavy rainfall created unusually strong currents in Cane Creek. During what began as a routine outing, several dogs entered the water before their owners realized how dangerous the conditions had become. As the owners attempted to rescue the animals, Monchu was carried away by the fast-moving floodwaters and went missing.
After an overnight search and widespread appeals on social media, a local drone pilot located the dog stranded near the creek. Volunteers then rescued Monchu and safely reunited him with his owners. The owners described the response from strangers as overwhelming and credited both community volunteers and drone technology with helping bring Monchu home safely.
