A Tennessee family is celebrating the return of their 4-year-old daughter’s missing service dog after a five-day search. Laiklen, who is autistic, relies on Chonkers, a trained Basset Hound who helps support her daily needs.
The dog disappeared after Laiklen’s mother, Nola Morris, returned home from a hospital stay. She reported Chonkers missing, and the dog was later found on a Fayetteville street and reunited with the family. The investigation remains ongoing, and the dog’s service documents are still missing.
Experts say losing a service animal can be especially challenging for children with autism because it disrupts important routines and sources of comfort. Laiklen’s family is grateful to have Chonkers back home.
