The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee has introduced River, a 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever trained to detect hidden electronic devices used as evidence in criminal investigations involving children.
River can locate items such as microSD cards, USB drives, hard drives and other digital storage devices that may be missed during searches. Officials say the K-9 is particularly valuable in child exploitation and sex crime investigations, where critical evidence is often concealed.
Donated by the nonprofit Defenders for Children, River has already assisted in five search warrants. The organization says its electronic-detection K-9 program has helped uncover more than 3,500 devices in child abuse and exploitation cases across 14 states.
