Firefighters rescued a dog after it fell about 50 feet into an abandoned, water-filled well early Monday morning in West Pelzer, South Carolina.
Crews were called to the scene around 12:30 a.m. after the dog had been missing for nearly an hour. The owner’s father then remembered an old, hidden well located in a patch of bamboo on the property.
Because of potentially dangerous atmospheric conditions inside the well, rescuers used supplied air while entering the hole. One firefighter was able to reach the dog, secure her, and safely bring her back to the surface. The dog was reunited with her owners after the rescue, which involved several local fire and technical rescue teams.
