Police in Dover, New Hampshire, are investigating a suspected animal neglect case after two dogs were found locked in a crate in the woods off Gerrish Road on Thursday.
A woman walking her dog discovered the animals and alerted police, who are now seeking the public’s help to identify their owners.
The dogs, a 12-year-old Chihuahua and an 8-year-old miniature Doberman, showed no signs of malnourishment and are now being cared for by the Pope Memorial Humane Society. Staff say the dogs are doing well and receiving basic care. The dogs will remain on a seven-day hold while police investigate. The humane society also offers free resources, including a pet food pantry and temporary housing, to help owners keep their pets.
