More than 200 dogs were rescued from a suspected hoarding situation in south-central Kentucky after the owner voluntarily surrendered the animals during a multi-state operation.

The dogs were found in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, and 244 were safely removed from the property. Many were suffering from untreated medical issues, parasites, infections, malnutrition and other signs of prolonged neglect. Some had also received little socialization.

The animals are now receiving veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and foster care through nonprofit organizations across Kentucky and neighboring states. Their recovery is expected to take months and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, while the investigation continues.
